Residents and commuters in Rewari got a pleasant surprise on Wednesday as police personnel were seen offering glasses of chilled sweetened water to passers-by amid the scorching heat.
The humane side of the khaki was widely appreciated by commuters who quenched their thirst at the ‘chhabil’ set up by the staff of Police Station (City) on the occasion of Ekadashi.
The police personnel manning the ‘chhabil’ (water stall) stopped vehicles and served sweetened water to occupants as well as pedestrians passing through the area.
The activity was organised under the guidance of Rewari SP Hemendra Kumar Meena.
SHO (City) Sube Singh, who led the police team at the stall, said the initiative was aimed at providing relief from the intense heat to drivers, commuters, labourers and local residents.
“Apart from offering cool and sweetened water to passers-by, we also educated them about preventive and protective measures to safeguard themselves from the heatwave prevailing in the region,” said Inspector Singh.
He stated that the police force is not meant only to maintain law and order, but also to fulfil its responsibility towards society.
“Such service activities strengthen the spirit of trust and cooperation between the police and the public,” he added, noting that police personnel participated in the event enthusiastically.
Meanwhile, Meena asserted that the Rewari police would continue to engage in such public welfare and social service activities in the future as well.
