Blue Myvi driver traumatised after witnessing motorcyclist killed in Klang drink-driving crash, leaving him haunted and sleepless for days.
PETALING JAYA: A 42-year-old man remains deeply traumatised after witnessing a motorcyclist land on the roof of his car during a horrific fatal accident along Jalan Raya Barat in Klang last Sunday.
The witness, who identified himself as Megan, said the incident has replayed in his mind constantly, leaving him unable to sleep for the past two days.
Megan was driving his Perodua Myvi with a friend towards Port Klang when the tragedy unfolded, Kosmo! reported.
“I haven’t been able to sleep at night. Every time I close my eyes, the incident reappears. I can still picture the victim’s hand hanging limp over my windscreen. Even now, I am in shock whenever I think about it,” he was quoted as saying.
Recounting the crash, Megan revealed that everything happened so quickly that he initially believed his vehicle had not been struck.
“I thought the car hadn’t hit anything. Then, I suddenly realised there was someone on the roof when I saw the victim’s hand dangling over the driver’s side of the glass.
“In a panic, I slowed down to ensure the victim didn’t fall onto the road. In my mind, the damage to the car didn’t matter; what mattered was his life,” he said.
Upon stopping by the roadside, Megan discovered the victim was no longer showing any signs of movement.
The incident has also left him in a difficult financial position; the car is currently being held at a police station for investigation and is not covered by comprehensive insurance.
“I feel sad knowing the victim has a family and young children. One person’s mistake has caused suffering for many and I am also deeply affected,” he added.
The accident, which occurred at 11.47am last Sunday, claimed the life of Amirul Hafiz Omar, 33. The victim was reportedly struck by a car driven by a man in his 20s who was allegedly intoxicated.
R. Saktygaanapathy, 28, has since been charged with murder. The charge, framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the death penalty or imprisonment of up to 40 years. If not sentenced to death, the accused faces a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.
No plea was recorded after the charge was read before Magistrate M. Khartiyayini, as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
In the same court, the accused pleaded guilty to self-administering drugs, believed to be benzodiazepine (Benzo) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
This charge, under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, provides for a fine of up to RM5,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both, alongside a potential three-year supervision order.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin did not offer bail due to the severity of the murder charge. The accused was unrepresented. The court has set June 3 for the mention of the case and the submission of pathology reports.
