KUALA LUMPUR – "I don't know."

That was the response from former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's daughter, Nooryana Najwa, when asked about the RM50 million payment, which is among the conditions attached to her father's conditional pardon.

She said this to members of the media upon arriving at the High Court here on Friday.

Nooryana arrived with her children to attend proceedings on her father's application to stay his 15-year prison sentence and RM11.38 billion fine imposed in his case linked to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

Najib's fourth child also declined to comment on the amount accumulated before entering the lift to the courtroom to meet her father.

Najib was previously sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined RM11.38 billion after being found guilty of four charges of using his position to obtain bribes and 21 charges of money laundering involving 1MDB funds.

On Dec 26 last year, then High Court judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah found Najib guilty on all 25 charges involving approximately RM2.3 billion in 1MDB funds.

The RM50 million payment referred to by Nooryana, however, relates to a separate case.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, granted Najib a conditional pardon on Sept 18, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence in the SRC International Sdn Bhd corruption case under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to payment of the RM50 million fine.

That fine was reduced from the initial RM210 million and his 12-year prison term was earlier halved to six years, following a 2024 pardons board review.

As of Sept 21, Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar said Najib's house-arrest arrangement had yet to take effect as his family had not paid the RM50 million fine, which must be settled at the Kuala Lumpur High Court Registrar's Office before the Prisons Department can proceed.

Najib's lawyers, Messrs Shafee & Co, have said a significant part of his assets, bank accounts and properties remain subject to freezing orders, meaning he does not have sole control over their disposal.

Umno has since launched a fundraising drive to help settle the fine, with party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi saying it would seek voluntary contributions from party leaders, members and supporters.

Friday's High Court hearing, which Nooryana attended, concerns the separate 1MDB conviction and is unrelated to the pardon condition.
