SEREMBAN – Former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun accepted his defeat in the Linggi State Legislative Assembly seat in the Negeri Sembilan polls on Saturday with an open heart.
The Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan (PH) Chairman also described that his “report card” during his eight years leading the state government was still lacking.
“I accept whatever the decision is and I said from the moment we dissolved the seat that I leave it to the people. During the campaign, I also said that I was presenting my ‘report card’ to them, perhaps my report card was still not good enough.
“So I have no problem with this. This is normal in politics; there are wins and losses in any contest,” he told reporters during a press conference at the PH command centre here on Saturday.
Earlier, two senior PH leaders suffered defeats in the Negeri Sembilan polls - DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke, who failed to retain the Chennah seat he held since 2008 and Aminuddin, who lost in Linggi.
Meanwhile, Aminuddin said the result would not change his stance, as his main goal was to educate the public, particularly young voters, to evaluate government performance and policies rather than racial sentiments.
“Alhamdulillah, I was given the opportunity for eight years to serve in this position and I believe I have tried my best. There may have been weaknesses and I acknowledge that.
“What matters to me is not winning or losing, but as I said earlier, I have never regretted contesting the Linggi seat. I am grateful that I was able to educate part of the younger generation. I will not feel disappointed,” he said.
