ICI turns over luxury vehicles to Ombudsman

THE Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) on Tuesday turned over to the Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) the two luxury vehicles surrendered by former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) engineer Brice Hernandez.

In a letter addressed to Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla, ICI Executive Director Brian Keith Hosaka said the turnover formed part of the commission’s earlier transmission of evidence, documents and records related to allegedly anomalous government infrastructure projects.

“The commission is hopeful that the turnover of these vehicles will further aid the OMB with its ongoing investigations, and also support its restitution initiatives for the benefit of the Filipino people,” he said.

Hosaka said that Hernandez had surrendered a black GMC Yukon Denali XL on Sept. 19, 2025, and a Lamborghini Urus Performante on Sept. 24, 2025.

“It will all be up to the Office of the Ombudsman on how they will tackle or treat the vehicles which were surrendered,” he added.

Hernandez voluntarily surrendered the luxury vehicles as a gesture of cooperation when he faced members of the ICI formed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to investigate corruption and inefficiency in major government infrastructure programs.

Hernandez, who has been detained at the Quezon City Jail since January, has accused Senators Joel Villanueva and Jinggoy Estrada of receiving at least 30 percent in kickbacks from nearly P1 billion worth of flood control projects in Bulacan.

Both senators have denied these allegations.

The Ombudsman earlier filed malversation and graft charges against Hernandez, former senator Ramon Bong Revilla Jr., and five others over the alleged P92.8-million ghost flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan.
