National Master Keith Adriane Ilar of the Philippines delivered a remarkable performance on the international stage, bringing home five medals — one gold and four silvers — at the 26th Asean Age Group Chess Championships held at the Our Tampines Hub in Singapore from Aug. 7 to 17, 2026.
A standout chess player for the Lyceum high school team in the NCAA, Ilar showcased the discipline, strategic thinking, and composure that have established him as one of the school’s top chess players.
Ilar’s biggest individual achievement in the tournament came in the Blitz Individual event where he captured the gold medal. In the fast-paced format that demands quick calculation, sharp decision-making, and composure under pressure, Ilar emerged as the tournament’s top performers.
He continued his impressive campaign in the Rapid Individual event, securing a silver medal against strong contenders from across the region.
Beyond his individual accomplishments, Ilar also played a key role in the success of his teams. He helped secure silver medals in both the Rapid Team and Blitz Team events, contributing his experience and competitive skill to the Philippine contingent.
He added another silver medal in the Standard Team event, completing a remarkable haul of five medals across the three formats.
Ilar’s performance in Singapore highlights his ability to excel not only individually but also as a team player. His success is a testament to the dedication, discipline, and countless hours of preparation required to compete at a high level in chess, where every move demands focus, patience, and strategic foresight.
