Kota Kinabalu: Outrageous price hikes for flights from Kota Kinabalu to Kuala Lumpur and vice versa only discourage national integration and Sabah as a tourism destination.

Sabah Tourism Deputy Chairman Datuk Jelani Hamdan said staggering prices set by local commercial airlines as of two days ago had surpassed the RM700 peak.

“Prices have soared to RM1,300 for a one-way ticket. AirAsia, Malaysian Airlines or Malindo should not be taking advantage of the holiday season like this,” he said.

Deeming the act as inconsiderate, he said old prices topped out at only RM500 even during peak season.

He said monitoring on local airline websites and applications showed no signs of a decline.

“Airline companies should double flight frequencies instead of jacking prices. Just a few weeks ago AirAsia had doubled theirs with the Airbus A330 aircrafts.

“I believe this is doable since there are not many international flights now,” said Jelani, who is also Sri Pelancongan Sabah Chairman.
