MOSCOW - FIFA President Gianni Infantino will convene an emergency meeting in Morocco on Wednesday amid loss of influence within the organisation.

In July, FIFA announced its intention to raise US$4.2 billion by selling approximately 20 per cent of the shares of a new entity to private investors, which would manage the organisation's media and commercial rights, including for the World Cup.

On Thursday (July 30), UEFA announced a boycott of FIFA competitions by all its members until the offer was fully withdrawn.

The report noted on Tuesday (Aug. 4) that Arsène Wenger, FIFA's head of global football development, and Mattias Grafström, the organisation's secretary general, had criticised the project.

On Saturday night (Aug.1), Infantino announced that, amid the controversy, the federation had abandoned its plan to sell some of its commercial rights. According to media reports, the project would have increased the FIFA president's annual salary from €3 million (US$3.4 million) to €30 million (US$34.5 million) - BERNAMA
