Himachal Pradesh University Vice-Chancellor Prof Mahavir Singh inaugurated the 100th Innovation Hub set up by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) RC-6 Science Gallery at Convent of Jesus and Mary School, Chelsea, in Shimla.

Housed in the school’s iconic Heritage Building built in 1864, the Innovation Hub has been established under the themes ‘Play, Enjoy and Learn’ and ‘Science for Everyone’. The project is a collaboration between the IAPT and CIST, IIS University, Jaipur.

Principal Sr. Greta said the hub’s journey began in April 2018. “In seven years, led by Prof YK Vijay, Director, CIST, the initiative has installed Innovation Hubs in over 100 institutions across India. The concept carries forward the legacy of Prof BL Saraf and Prof DP Khandelwal, pioneers of IAPT, since 1984,” the principal said. “Each hub features over 21 interactive experimental models fabricated at Prayan Innovation by KC Sharma, senior technician, retired from CDPE, University of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Handouts and teacher training are provided for sustained development. Housing the 100th hub in our heritage building of Chelsea beautifully blends legacy with future-ready learning. This is dedicated to the welfare and scientific temper of our students,” said Greta.

Prof Mahavir Singh said such initiatives are vital for taking science beyond textbooks and into the hands of young learners.
