To strengthen road safety measures, Jhajjar Deputy Commissioner Varsha Khangwal has directed officials concerned to install road markings and safety devices, including road stands and cat’s eyes, at all entry and exit points of the city. She also instructed departments to identify blind and sharp turns prone to accidents and prepare both immediate and long-term solutions to prevent road mishaps at such locations.

The DC issued the directives during a meeting on road safety, Surakshit School Vahan Policy and the Mhari Sadak App held on Friday. Stressing the need for coordinated efforts, she said all departments must work seriously to reduce road accidents in the district.

Varsha instructed officials to identify accident-prone locations and complete all assigned works within the stipulated time frame. “If there are flaws in road design, departments should prepare detailed reports and ensure corrective measures are taken promptly. Negligence in matters related to road safety will not be tolerated,” she added.

The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the action-taken reports (ATR) submitted by departments regarding pending road safety issues. She emphasised that road safety was the priority for the district administration and called upon officials to conduct awareness campaigns among the public in a planned and coordinated manner.

Regarding the Mhari Sadak App, the DC directed officials to ensure proper verification of every complaint uploaded on the platform. Accountability of the departmental officers concerned should also be fixed to ensure timely disposal of complaints. She said categorisation of complaints according to their nature would help in prioritising and resolving issues effectively.

Varsha further instructed the officials to ensure trimming of tree branches and removal of bushes near blind turns to improve visibility for motorists. “Safety arrangements and signboards should also be installed at the sites where construction of roads, underpasses and flyovers is underway to prevent accidents,” she added.

The DC also directed strict implementation of the Safe School Vehicle Policy in the district. She asked officials to continue regular inspections of school buses and appealed to educational institutions to comply with all prescribed safety norms.

Varsha further ordered strict action against traffic violators, including challans for over-speeding, mobile phone use while driving, drunken driving and not wearing seat belts, to encourage people to follow traffic rules seriously.
