An intoxicated senior citizen was arrested in Kota Tinggi after slashing his wife with a parang following a disagreement over television volume.
KOTA TINGGI: Police arrested a senior citizen suspected of slashing his wife’s right hand with a parang at Taman Desa Sejahtera last night.
Kota Tinggi police chief Supt Yusof Othman said the district headquarters’ control centre received information about the incident at about 9.30 pm from the public, reporting that the woman, in her 70s, was covered in blood.
A team from the district police headquarters was sent to the scene, where it arrested the suspect, who is also in his 70s.
“Investigations revealed the incident stemmed from a disagreement after the victim reportedly turned up the television volume. The suspect, who was intoxicated, reacted by slashing her with a parang,” he said in a statement today.
Yusof said the victim was slashed once, sustaining a minor cut about one centimetre long on her right hand. She received treatment at Kota Tinggi Hospital and is in stable condition.
He added that an investigation paper has been opened under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
