FEW Malaysians can resist a packet of nasi lemak for breakfast, especially when it arrives neatly wrapped in a traditional newspaper parcel, a staple that promises comfort, flavour and a hearty start to the day.
However, one woman’s morning took a distressing turn when she discovered unwanted “extra protein” lurking in her meal, transforming a routine breakfast into a stomach-churning ordeal.
In a post shared on the social media platform Threads, the woman shared a video showing maggots wriggling inside the sambal-coated chicken.
According to her account, the meal had been purchased by her husband on his way to work. She made the grim discovery just as she was preparing to serve the food to her child.

“Didn’t even mention there was ‘extra protein’. Luckily I opened it first before giving it to my child,” she wrote.
The post quickly drew reactions from netizens, many of whom expressed disgust while sharing their own precautions when buying pre-packed food.
“That’s why I don’t eat nasi lemak that’s been pre-packed for a long time. We don’t know what time it was packed. I go to stalls that pack it in front of me,” one user commented.
Another pointed out that the size of the maggots suggested the food may have been left out for an extended period.
“Oh my God. The worms are already big, which shows the chicken has been cooked for quite a while.”
