Isko cites weekly declogging, municipal response during week-long monsoon rains

MANILA, Philippines — Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso on Thursday, August 13, pointed to the city’s weekly drainage maintenance, garbage collection operations, and evacuation procedures as key measures during the recent Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) rains.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Pedro Gil Residences hemodialysis center, Isko credited the city's weekly cleanup drive under Executive Order No. 3 for helping manage flood levels across the capital.

"On behalf of the people of Manila, to our barangay officials, thank you very much for heading and implementing Executive Order No. 3 that I signed last July to clean up our streets, markets, and clean every Saturday," Isko said in Filipino.

"If you notice, it seems repetitive every Saturday cleaning, dredging, suctioning, bagging, and disposing. But as you know, for the past several rainy seasons, this has brought relief to the city of Manila," he added.

Executive Order No. 3, issued in July, mandates all 896 Punong Barangays and their councils to conduct community cleanups every Saturday, with assistance from the Department of Environment and Public Services and the Department of Engineering and Public Works for declogging operations.
