MANILA, Philippines — Manila City Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso expressed dismay over acts of vandalism left on city infrastructure following a protest marking the anniversary of Martial Law.
In a social media post on Monday, Isko shared photos showing spray paint and vandalized marks left along a road center island in the city.
"This is disheartening. Look at the center island that was seemingly used as a blackboard, left with traces of spray paint and vandalism after the rally," Isko said wrote in Filipino.
Isko stressed that while citizens hold the right to free expression and peaceful assembly, public property should be respected and maintained.
"We put thought and hard work into beautifying, cleaning, and fixing Manila for our fellow Manileños. Then this is what gets done to our city? We are free to express ourselves and protest, but hopefully, we do not destroy what we have worked hard to restore," he added.
