OSPITAL ng Maynila Medical Center (OMMC) has performed seven angioplasty procedures and 56 angiograms, free of charge, since its Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory opened a year ago.
Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso announced the figures Thursday as OMMC marked the first anniversary of the facility, which opened on Sept. 8, 2025.
The latest was the seventh no-cost, successful angioplasty, performed on a 70-year-old male patient from Manila.
Domagoso said the procedure would have cost approximately P975,000 at a private hospital, where angioplasty procedures may range from P800,000 to P1.5 million.
“How much did our patient pay today? Zero. Literally zero. Nothing was paid. Thanks to the taxpayers of the city,” Domagoso said in Filipino.
Angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to open blocked or narrowed arteries supplying the heart. Unlike open-heart surgery, it does not require opening the chest and generally allows patients to recover and return home within a few days.
Isko stressed that qualified patients undergoing angioplasty at OMMC do not have to pay for the procedure.
“Angioplasty is free in our public hospital, and that will continue,” Domagoso added.
