Jailed for keeping stolen goods

Kota Kinabalu: A 33-year-old man was sentenced to four months’ jail and fined RM1,000 or two months’ jail for keeping stolen goods.

Razman Abdul Harris pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to dishonestly retaining 13 boxes of medicine and four boxes of perfumes belonging to Guardian 1Borneo,  at the Guardian outlet in 1Borneo, on Aug 17, at 6pm.

Razman was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between six months and five years, or a fine, or both, on conviction.

The court heard that the stolen goods, estimated at RM299.90, were missing from the shop shelves.

Razman was detained later at the parking area.

Several items stolen from Guardian were found on him.

Razman was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.

In a separate case, a man was fined RM1,400 or four months’ jail for disposing of stolen property.

Syafis Sakaran pleaded guilty to jointly disposing of a stolen parcel belonging to one Adleen Nadhirah at a house in Angkasa Apartment, at about 2.54pm on June 6.

He was charged under Section 414 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both, on conviction.

He was jointly charged with Salina Danan, who pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court set Oct 29 for mention pending instructions from the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office after being informed by Salina’s counsel that the defence had submitted a representation letter.

Earlier, the prosecution said the complainant discovered at about 6pm that a parcel containing a RM30 headscarf, which had been left outside the grille of his house by the delivery company, was missing.

A neighbour’s CCTV footage showed a man taking the parcel.

Following his arrests, Syafis who was then arrested led police to the place where the parcel had been discarded, and it was then recovered.

The complainant identified the recovered parcel as the one addressed to his wife, Adleen Nadhirah, with their home address stated on it.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Akash Singh prosecuted.
