
Kota Kinabalu: The Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters confirmed an armed robbery incident at a pharmacy on Jalan Gaya on Saturday (6 September) at approximately 4:41 pm.
An 18-year-old local man threatened a pharmacy worker with a knife and demanded that the cash register be opened.
Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief, ACP Kasim Muda, said the victim sustained injuries to the right palm while attempting to resist and disarm the suspect.
“The suspect was apprehended at the scene by members of the public before being handed over to the police.
“Checks revealed the suspect has no prior criminal record and tested negative for drugs,” he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for armed robbery causing hurt.
“We express our gratitude to the members of the public who assisted in the arrest. We also remind everyone to remain vigilant and contact the police immediately if faced with any criminal activity,” added ACP Kasim.
The incident went viral with a video circulating online showing the suspect being detained by the public.
