Jannik Sinner defeats Jiri Lehecka to win the Miami Open, completing the rare Indian Wells-Miami sweep without dropping a set.
WORLD number two Jannik Sinner overpowered Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 to win the ATP Miami Masters 1000 for a second time.
The victory completes the “Sunshine Double,” making Sinner the first man to sweep the elite hard court tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami since Roger Federer in 2017.
He is also the first player to achieve the feat without dropping a single set throughout both tournaments.
“It means a lot to me, (completing) the Sunshine Double for the first time, it’s incredible,” Sinner said on court.
“It’s something I never would’ve thought (I’d win) because it’s difficult to achieve. We made it somehow, so I’m very happy.”
The Italian’s triumph marks his third consecutive Masters 1000 title, following victories in Paris last year and Indian Wells earlier this month.
Sinner, who won Miami in 2024 but missed last year’s event due to a three-month doping ban, now gains ground on Carlos Alcaraz in the race for the world number one ranking.
His win, coupled with Aryna Sabalenka’s women’s title on Saturday, marks the first Indian Wells-Miami sweep on both tours since Novak Djokovic and Victoria Azarenka did it in 2016.
The final was disrupted by rain delays totalling more than two and a half hours.
Sinner remained unshaken, firing 10 aces and winning 33 of 36 points on his first serve.
He broke Lehecka’s serve for a 2-1 lead in the first set, handing the Czech his first service break of the entire tournament.
Sinner then saved three break points in the next game with a series of big serves to consolidate his advantage.
He secured the only break of the second set for a 5-4 lead after Lehecka had fought off five set points.
The Italian closed out the match with a forehand volley winner, having not faced a single break point in the second set.
Lehecka, playing in his first Masters 1000 final, will rise to a career-high world number 14.
“I came here with not good form and I was able to come back to the tennis that I want to play,” Lehecka said at the trophy ceremony.
