Jay Williams has explained why the New York Knicks are an all-time great team following their NBA Finals victory.

The Knicks were the underdogs against the San Antonio Spurs, but they still won the series in just five games.

Jalen Brunson received the Finals MVP trophy for his incredible performance, averaging 32.6 points per game.

However, OG Anunoby, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges, and Josh Hart all came up clutch in certain moments.

The Knicks may not be a star-studded lineup like the 2017 Golden State Warriors, but the stats do not lie about their performance.

Why Jay Williams believes the Knicks belong among the NBA’s greatest teams

Former NBA player Jay Williams was mightily impressed with the manner in which the Knicks dominated the playoffs.

Mike Brown’s team lost just three games (two vs the Atlanta Hawks and one vs the Spurs) across four series.

Not only did they win games, but they also outscored their opponents by a playoff-record margin (14.9 PPG).

Meanwhile, the Knicks were 6-2 in games where they trailed by double-digits—the best record of any team in the last 30 years.

Therefore, it is difficult to disagree with Williams’ comments about the Knicks being one of the greatest teams ever.

“I think they’re an all-time great team because they had an all-time great run,” Williams explained on ESPN.

“If you have a great run, regardless of name recognition, because that’s how we like to associate great teams, like how many Hall of Famers are on a team, or how many names jump off the page…

“The beautiful thing about this squad is they were an actual unit, and they did it collectively. For me, that etches them in history as one of the all-time great teams.”

The only knock on the Knicks’ playoff run is that they did not face a strong Eastern Conference, but that is not their fault.

Hopefully, we will see them take on a rejuvenated Boston Celtics next season, with Jayson Tatum another year removed from his Achilles injury.
