
TAWAU: Sabah DAPSY deputy head, Philip Yap called on Deputy Chief Minister II and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries Datuk Dr. Jeffrey Gapari Kitingan to go down to the ground and solve the problem of recurrent flash floods in happening for decades.
Yap said if Jeffrey could not do so, he should direct the departments under his Ministry such as the Department of Irrigation and Drainage to find solutions to the problem.
Recalling the recent flash flood in Tawau, he said almost all areas in Tawau were hit by floods to the extent that a Kelisa car was swept into a nearby ditch Taman Capital, Jalan Sin Onn, here, even though it’s only raining about an hour that day.
It was the worst flash flood to hit Tawau and resulted in very bad traffic congestion.
Yap said Jeffrey should also investigate whether the Tawau River dredging and widening project had been implemented, plan ways for flash flood mitigation in Tawau, in line with the State slogan of “Sabah Maju Jaya”
