Kota Kinabalu: Jesse Yong Ming King from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) was crowned the Champion of Champions (overall winner) at the Mr Sabah 2026 Bodybuilding championship held at the Kadamaian Square Hall in Taginambur, Kota Belud, on August 22–23.
In addition, he also won the 75.1–80kg Light Middleweight Bodybuilding category and the Men’s Athletic Physique Over 170cm category.
Meanwhile, Nicholas Li of Total Fitness secured a double victory, capturing the 65.1–70kg Lightweight Bodybuilding category and the Men’s Athletic Physique Under 170cm category.
In the Best Poser awards, Mohd Faez Farhan Bakar (Radu Gym) won the men’s category, while Ivy K Yon (Xsport Fitness Gym) took the women’s title alongside her victory in the Women’s Bodybuilding category.
The championship organised by the Sabah Bodybuilding Association (SBBA) in collaboration with the Kota Belud District Office, which drew a record 98 athletes was officiated by Carlyle Lajimin, Political Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister III.
SBBA President Clarence Runggi stressed that the championship serves as a vital avenue for identifying and nurturing future national-level talent, rather than just determining State winners.
He added that athletes vying for a spot at the Mr Malaysia 2026 Championship to be held in Alor Setar, Kedah, from Oct 1 to 5 will be evaluated on performance, discipline, commitment and consistency.
“The selection will not be based solely on winning. Overall performance, discipline, commitment and the athlete’s dedication will also be taken into consideration, as those selected will carry Sabah’s name on the national stage,” he said.
He added that the record-breaking attendance at this year’s competition reflects the booming interest in bodybuilding across Sabah, reaffirming the SBBA’s commitment to raising competition standards and developing elite athletes.
