On July 23, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hinted at some “good news” before announcing that all Malaysians aged 18 and above would receive a one-off RM100 cash aid.

The cash aid started being distributed via MyKad on August 31 and can be used until the end of December.

Jho Low is eligible for the one-off RM100 payment

It was later revealed that Jho Low, the fugitive Malaysian tycoon linked to the 1MDB scandal, is apparently eligible for the government’s Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme.

Malaysian politician Koo Shiaw Lee shared a screenshot on social media showing Jho Low’s eligibility in the MyKasih system after entering his MyKad number.

In his post, Koo criticised the situation, pointing out that while ordinary Malaysians face issues at the checkout counter, Jho Low can access the benefits without worry.

“Jho Low’s ID card shows as ‘eligible’ in the MyKasih system. While people get stopped at the checkout when buying things, Jho Low can enjoy his eligibility with peace of mind. This is the ‘best policy that takes care of the rich,'” he wrote.

The MyKasih system ran into issues after an unusually high number of transactions

Earlier, it was reported that the MyKasih terminal system faced delays in processing transactions due to a surge in purchases.

The Ministry of Finance said the slowdown happened because the first day of the SARA aid programme saw an unusually high number of transactions.

The delays even caused some shoppers to abandon trolleys full of items, leaving supermarket staff to spend hours putting everything back on the shelves.

Despite the hiccups, the ministry confirmed that transactions were still being received and processed.
