Jind police have booked a government school teacher under the POCSO Act for allegedly assaulting two students.
Sources said that two female students, in a police complaint, have alleged physical harassment, including inappropriate touching, molestation, and other serious misconduct inside a classroom at the school.
Sources say the issue was first raised by four girls, and at least two of them have filed a police complaint. After that, the families of the girls went to the police seeking action.
The incident is said to have happened a few days earlier. After it came to light, some people from the village panchayat reportedly tried to settle the matter and protect the teacher.
According to the girls, the teacher used to touch and grab them inappropriately inside the classroom. They reported these incidents of harassment to the authorities.
Later, two of the girls are said to have taken back their statements, while the other two continued to stand by their complaint. The matter has also been reported to senior education department officials.
The girls involved are students of Class 8 and Class 10. Their families are reportedly facing pressure from some people, but they are still demanding action against the teacher. Sources also said the teacher was not well-liked in the school because of his behaviour.
In a similar earlier case in September 2023, a government school principal in Jind district was accused of harassing several minor girls over a long period. Around 60 girls had initially given statements, but later only six testified before a magistrate. After the investigation, the principal was arrested and removed from service.
