(UPDATE) MANILA, Philippines — Detained Sen. Jinggoy Estrada was rushed to a hospital in San Juan after an accident inside the Quezon City Jail on Wednesday, according to his office.
Estrada, who is in prison for alleged plunder, was said to be preparing for an x-ray at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan when he slipped inside the bathroom, causing his left knee to "snap," resulting in "severe pain."
“He was just actually along the corridor when he suddenly experienced a knee problem,” a jail personnel said.
The detained senator’s office reported that his left knee "snapped" apparently due to his osteoarthritis, causing him to experience severe pain.
Records showed that the Sandiganbayan allowed the senator to leave detention for medical procedures at the San Juan City hospital.
