MANILA, Philippines — A 55-year-old American landed in jail after he allegedly refused to settle his hotel bill and caused disturbance inside an establishment, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said on Friday.
Brig. Gen. Glenn Randy Silvio, QCPD director, identified the American only in his alias ‘James,’ who was also facing charges in violation of Article 151 (Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority or their Agents) of the Revised Penal Code before the City Prosecutor's Office.
According to a report from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, the suspect checked into a city hotel on July 18, 2026, and occupied Room 371 on the third floor until August 5, 2026.
When hotel management discovered that he had failed to pay his outstanding accommodation fees, they sought assistance from Barangay Ramon Magsaysay authorities, who in turn coordinated with Project 6 Police Station.
Upon arrival, responding officers repeatedly knocked on the suspect's door, but he responded by hurling profanities, disturbing nearby guests, and violently banging on the door from inside, the QCPD said.
Given his aggressive demeanor and continued refusal to open the door, officers—with the consent of hotel management—forcibly entered the room around 3:30 p.m. on August 5, Silvio said.
“The suspect persisted in his hostile behavior and even attempted to strike the officers with a wooden object, prompting them to subdue and place him under arrest,” according to the QCPD chief.
The American was facing charges for violations of Article 155 (Alarms and Scandals), the QCPD said.
Silvio quickly commended the swift and coordinated response of the hotel management, barangay officials, and police officers for responding in the incident.
“We likewise remind all foreign nationals to respect Philippine laws, fulfill their financial obligations, and act responsibly while in the country,” he said.
