Johnny Manziel says his knockout of Bob Menery was a message for Drake
Manziel claimed his punches were meant to send a message to Drake in his win over Bob Menery, after the rapper failed to show up as planned.
The rapper had promised to be there for Manziel’s MMA debut against Menery, but didn’t make it. It didn’t seem to bother Manziel, who scored a TKO win in what many are calling one of the worst fights the sport has seen.
To get the fight official, Menery and Manziel had to agree on several weight adjustments due to their size difference. The three-round amateur bout only lasted a few minutes before it was over.

Johnny Manziel offers candid assessment after his win over Bob Menery
Right after the fight, both men said they were done with fighting for good. The football star, who’s a long way removed from his best days, still managed to pick up the win against a much smaller and clearly less prepared opponent.
Taking to Instagram later on, Manziel didn’t hold back on his own performance, saying: “We both fought like s—.” But he did give Menery credit for stepping into the ring and even costing Dana White $10,000. He also included a nod to Drake, posting: “was trying to write OVO on your forehead.”
OVO refers to Drake’s lifestyle brand and record label. The initials stand for “October’s Very Own”, a nod to the rapper’s birth month. It’s a name he’s used for years while building one of music’s most recognisable brands.
The two have stayed close since Manziel’s college days at Texas A&M when he was making headlines as a standout quarterback. Despite his early success — including an unprecedented Heisman Trophy win in his freshman year — off-field issues soon caught up with him and his NFL career was short-lived.
