Jordan Henderson to stay with England squad at World Cup after having surgery on broken arm

  • England midfielder Jordan Henderson sustained a severe injury to his left forearm during celebrations following England's 3-2 World Cup victory over Mexico.
  • The incident occurred when Henderson, an unused substitute, slipped while attempting to jump over an advertising board after the match, landing awkwardly.
  • His father, Brian Henderson, clarified to the Daily Mail that the injury was a “completely smashed” forearm, more serious than initial reports of a broken wrist, and required urgent medical attention including oxygen before he was stretchered off.
  • The injury has ruled the 36-year-old Brentford player out of the remainder of the World Cup and he is expected to miss the beginning of the Premier League season after undergoing surgery.
  • Despite the injury, Henderson will remain with the England squad for the duration of the tournament, with his father confirming he will not be leaving his teammates.
