Kota Kinabalu: Sabah strongest woman Joyce Heng will be taking part in the upcoming POKSI Merdeka’s strongest women open event in Jakarta on August 27.

This will be her first international outing since she last won the open title in the Philippines back in 2019 before the pandemic outbreak. Despite the long break, the 36-year-old Penampang based lass is aiming for a top three finish.

“It won’t be easy after such a long time without competition. Nonetheless I have always been keeping fit and training as much as I can. My target is a top three spot and hopefully I can achieve that,” she said.

The world ranked 16th Joyce is currently ranked first in the country and in Asia as well as top in the Static Monster World ranking.

She expressed her gratitude to assistant Youth and Sports Minister Andi Muhd Suryady Bandi for the financial assistance to support her trip when she paid him a visit at his office on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, she revealed that she will also be making her debut in the 10th Sabah Masters Athletics Championship scheduled to start this weekend at Likas Stadium.

“I will be participating in discus, javelin and shot put . It is something I have not done since my school days 17 years ago. Hopefully I do well and get to represent Sabah in future competitions,” she said.
