JPJ plans a more comprehensive registration system for future RXZ Members editions, requiring participants to provide driving and vehicle licence details.
PUTRAJAYA: The registration system for RXZ Members, previously focused mainly on administrative matters such as distributing merchandise and T-shirts and lucky draw participation, will be expanded to include participant and vehicle information for future editions.
Road Transport Department (JPJ) director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the department had proposed a stricter registration process requiring participants to submit information such as their driving licences and Motor Vehicle Licences (LKM).
He said the proposal was made during JPJ’s engagement session with the organisers yesterday as part of measures to improve safety and ensure compliance with the law during the programme.
“At the session, JPJ Enforcement Division provided views, advice and proposed several matters, including the registration process, which needs to be carried out more thoroughly, whereby participants are required to register and provide the necessary information such as driving licences, motor vehicle licences and so on.
“This is important so that the organisers can also take responsibility for participants attending future programmes,” he told a press conference after a media engagement programme with JPJ’s top management here today.
Aedy Fadly said the organisers did not object to the proposal and had agreed to implement it, while already taking several measures to ensure participants comply with laws and road regulations.
However, he said some participants still failed to comply with the rules and this tarnished the programme’s image, despite the organisers having previously met JPJ and police in Terengganu to seek advice on legal compliance.
The situation prompted JPJ to propose a new approach through a more comprehensive registration process to ensure the information collected is not limited to administrative matters alone, he said.
He said JPJ had previously warned that it would not support the programme if serious incidents, particularly fatal accidents, continued to occur.
Earlier, Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Seri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali said 46 road accidents involving motorcyclists were recorded during RXZ Members 8.0 from July 30 to Aug 2, including 11 fatal accidents, five serious injuries and 30 minor injuries.
