MANILA, Philippines — Jose Rizal University (JRU) booked a quarterfinals ticket iAn the NCAA Season 102 men’s basketball tournament after defeating Mapua University, 71-58, on Tuesday night at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
The JRU Heavy Bombers enjoy a solo lead for the time being in Group A with a 9-3 win-loss record, while Mapua dropped to 6-6 to place fourth in the standings.
College of Saint Benilde and San Beda were tied with an 8-3 win-loss record with two remaining games left, making JRU, Benilde, and San Beda clash for the twice-to-beat incentive.
Lawrence Mangubat led the scoring with 19 points along with six rebounds, while Jhilian Palis added 15 points.
Sean Salvador and Jahmir Eligado joined the double-digit mark with 11 and 10 points each.
Mapua, on the other hand, had Yam Concepcion, Marc Igliane, Cyrus Cuenco, and Jamal Diaz all scoring 11 points each.
