MANILA, Philippines — Professional basketball player Kai Sotto and actress-model Rere Madrid are now married, the couple announced Wednesday through social media.
Madrid shared videos from their wedding in Alfonso, Cavite on Instagram, along with a message reflecting on their relationship and the challenges they faced before tying the knot.
“Still feels unreal that we finally get to call this day ours. (Mr & Mrs Sotto),” Madrid wrote.
“Even though we went through challenges, misunderstandings, and people who tried to break what we had, we still chose to trust each other. Because of that, our relationship became even stronger, together with the love and support of our families,” she continued.
“We also want to thank our parents and siblings for being such a big part of this beautiful relationship. Seeing our families become one is truly one of the best feelings in the world,” she added.
The couple also vowed to continue pursuing their dreams together “hand in hand.”
Sotto, 24, last played for the Koshigaya Alphas in Japan’s B.League. He is the son of former Philippine Basketball Association player Ervin Sotto and previously played for the Ateneo Blue Eaglets in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines junior division.
The 7-foot-3 center has also represented the Philippines in several international youth and senior tournaments.
Madrid, 26, whose real name is Athena Madrid, rose to prominence as a contestant in the seventh season of the talent competition “StarStruck.” She is also the younger sister of actor Ruru Madrid and has worked as a model and brand endorser.
The couple publicly confirmed their relationship in 2024.
