A passer-by spotted a kangaroo in Elmshorn near Hamburg and alerted the police, but the marsupial was too fast and ended up hopping away from authorities, a police spokeswoman said on Monday.

The incident happened on Saturday morning. Police arrived with two patrol cars, but officers were unable to catch the kangaroo. The animal disappeared into tall grass in a meadow. Police said it has not been seen again so far.

According to the spokeswoman, the kangaroo simply hopped away because it was "too quick." She could not provide details on the size or species. The kangaroo's owner is also still not known.
