Kota Kinabalu: Karanaan PBS has expressed full support for Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun in opposing a proposed cable car project at Mount Kinabalu.

Its division chief Datuk Bernard J. Dalinting ([ic) said the stance reflects a firm commitment to preserving the Unesco World Heritage status of the mountain, which must not be compromised.

He said Mount Kinabalu is a globally recognised heritage site and a highly sensitive ecological asset, warning that developments such as a cable car project could pose risks including environmental degradation, biodiversity loss and disruption to fragile ecosystems.

Bernard also highlighted concerns over overtourism, potential strain on infrastructure and waste management systems, as well as the risk of altering the mountain’s natural landscape and affecting its authenticity.

He added that any development must be carefully assessed through transparent and science-based processes, stressing the need to balance economic interests with conservation to safeguard Sabah’s natural and cultural heritage for future generations.
