Karnal Mayor Renu Bala Gupta reviews preparations for a cleanliness and plantation drive on Tuesday.

On the directions of the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies, the Karnal Municipal Corporation (KMC) will organise a mega cleanliness and plantation campaign in Wards No. 4 and 10 on June 4 and 5.

To ensure successful implementation of the campaign, Mayor Renu Bala Gupta chaired a meeting with councillors, ward committee members and municipal officials on Tuesday. She reviewed the preparations and assigned responsibilities to various stakeholders.

Mayor Gupta said the cleanliness and plantation activities would commence at 8 am on both days. The KMC has already identified locations for the campaign and appointed nodal officers for supervision.

As per the schedule, a special cleanliness drive and plantation programme will be conducted near the Yoga Shed in Karan Vihar, Ward No. 4, on June 4. On June 5, a similar campaign will be organised at the vacant ground near Kalra Market in Ward No. 10. Besides, a large-scale plantation drive will be held on World Environment Day, June 5, at 11 am near the ITI Chowk flyover on National Highway 44.

The Mayor announced that nearly 5,000 saplings will be planted during the two-day campaign. The plantation drive will be carried out under the theme “Mera Paudha, Meri Zimmedari” (My plant, my responsibility), with a strong emphasis on the protection and maintenance of the planted saplings.

She said ward committee members would regularly monitor the plants to ensure their survival. Highlighting the importance of public participation, the Mayor said cleanliness is not a one-day activity but a continuous process that requires collective efforts.

Chief Minister’s Good Governance Associate (CMGGA) Shruti Mishra called upon ward committees to play an active role in identifying local development priorities and cleanliness issues. She urged the members to communicate ward-level requirements to the KMC so that public welfare projects could be undertaken on priority.

Additional Municipal Commissioner (AMC) Ashok Kumar reviewed the preparations and directed officials to ensure all necessary arrangements and resources are in place well before the commencement of the campaign.
