Kedah heatwave alert eases as two districts removed

The number of Kedah districts under a Level 1 heatwave alert has fallen to seven, with Langkawi and Kubang Pasu removed, while Marudi in Sarawak is added to the list.

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of districts in Kedah under a Level 1 heatwave alert has decreased to seven as of 4pm today, down from nine earlier in the morning.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), Pulau Langkawi and Kubang Pasu have been removed from the alert list.

MetMalaysia also added Marudi in Sarawak to the Level 1 alert status in its latest update.

The seven Kedah districts remaining on alert are Kuala Muda, Kota Setar, Baling, Sik, Padang Terap, Pendang and Pokok Sena.

The entire state of Perlis also remains under the same Level 1 heatwave alert.

MetMalaysia confirmed that no areas had recorded Level 2 heatwave conditions as of this afternoon.

A Level 1 alert is issued when daily maximum temperatures reach between 35°C and 37°C.

A Level 2 alert is declared for temperatures above 37°C up to 40°C for at least three consecutive days.
