Rainfall in Kedah offers respite from months of dry heat, with MetMalaysia forecasting afternoon thunderstorms for most districts as monsoon transition begins

ALOR SETAR: Several areas in Kedah received rainfall yesterday afternoon, bringing relief after months of hot and dry weather.

The districts of Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu, and Kuala Muda were among those that experienced the showers.

Kedah Meteorological Department director Muhammad Khalil Abdul Aziz said most districts, except Langkawi and Bandar Baharu, are expected to experience rain or thunderstorms in the afternoon.

He stated this is in line with the monsoon transition phase, which typically brings such weather.

“Several areas and districts have received rain today as forecast by the Malaysian Meteorological Department,” he said when contacted.

Muhammad Khalil advised the public to stay alert to weather changes and refer to MetMalaysia’s website or social media for the latest information.

A resident, Sayuti Wan Chik from Titi Gajah, expressed gratitude for the rainfall in his area. “Alhamdulillah, it rained in Titi Gajah this afternoon… even if only for a few minutes, it felt like a blessing as it helped reduce the hot temperature,” he said.

Earlier, MetMalaysia updated that nine districts in Kedah were at Alert Level 1 as of 4 pm yesterday.

The affected districts are Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Pendang, Padang Terap, Langkawi, Kuala Muda, Sik, and Baling.

Alert Level 1 is declared when the daily maximum temperature reaches between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.
