Kelantan’s state government vows firm action against illegal racing at LTSIP airport, pledging enforcement and youth programmes to tackle the issue.

KOTA BHARU: The Kelantan state government is taking a serious view of the illegal racing activities by youths at the Sultan Ismail Petra Airport (LTSIP) in Pengkalan Chepa, which recently went viral on social media.

State Youth, Sports, NGO and Community Unity Committee chairman Zamakhshari Muhamad stated there should be no compromise on actions that endanger public safety, which must be addressed firmly through enforcement.

He emphasised the issue needs to be addressed wisely with a focus on long-term solutions, rather than through unhelpful labelling or perceptions.

Zamakhshari said the state government will adopt a comprehensive approach encompassing enforcement, youth development, recreational facilities, and alternative activities.

“We are forging a close relationship with the authorities, including the Royal Malaysia Police, Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Malaysia Airports Berhad, in enforcement aspects,” he told reporters after an exco meeting.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke had earlier directed the JPJ to conduct a large-scale enforcement operation at LTSIP.

Media reports indicated the new terminal’s departure hall had been used as a racing circuit by mat rempit less than a month after becoming fully operational.
