KOTA BHARU – Kelantan Pas Youth is targeting 5,000 new members among young people by the end of this year in an effort to strengthen party support and its election machinery ahead of the General Election and state election in the state.
Kelantan Pas Youth chief Mohd Firdaus Mohamed Nawi said the focus was on voters below the age of 40 through the ‘Anak Muda Gu Kita’ initiative, while efforts to develop a new generation of young leaders would also be intensified to strengthen the state government and Kelantan Pas.
“Delegates also adopted a resolution related to elections, which touched on greater youth involvement to be elevated as part of the leadership in strengthening the state government and Kelantan Pas,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
The resolution was reached during the 67th annual Kelantan Pas Youth Assembly at Hotel H-Elite, Tunjong, here on Friday.
The assembly was officiated by Pas state deputy commissioner Datuk Dr Mohamed Fadzli Hassan and involved eight representatives from each Pas Youth division representing 14 areas across Kelantan.
In a related development, he said the assembly also approved an emergency motion supporting the Kelantan Government’s efforts to table and pass the Syariah Criminal Offences (Kelantan) 2026 Bill at the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly sitting on Aug 11.
Mohd Firdaus said the party viewed efforts to uphold syariah in the state administration as a priority despite challenges and opposition from various stakeholders.
He said the effort demonstrated that the state government had never given up on defending the sovereignty of syariah law following the Federal Court’s decision in the Nik Elin case in 2024.
“The state government has chosen a mature, prudent approach based on the principles of the Federal Constitution by reviewing the entire enactment and drafting a Bill that is stronger from a legal standpoint,” he said.
