
RANAU: A 27-year-old local man was arrested after police seized 14 bottles containing suspected ketum water and other items believed to have been used in its preparation during a raid here recently.
The operation was conducted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Ranau District Police Headquarters (IPD) at about 5pm following information received from members of the local community.
Ranau District Police Chief Supt Mursalin Mahmud said the suspect was detained at a village in the district during the operation.
He thanked residents for their cooperation and willingness to provide information on activities suspected of violating the law.
He said such cooperation was important in enabling police to detect and take action against activities that could affect the wellbeing and safety of the community.
The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.
A person convicted under the provision can be fined up to RM100,000, imprisoned for up to five years, or both.
