KK City Hall fines fishing vessel company RM500 for littering in sea

KOTA KINABALU – A fishing vessel company was slapped with a maximum fine of RM500 by the Kota Kinabalu City Hall after its crew was recorded throwing rubbish into the sea, here, recently.

Mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip in a statement yesterday said that the incident was recorded in a video by an individual who later volunteered to be a witness to the offence.

“It is an offence under the Kota Kinabalu City (Anti-Litter) By-laws (UUK) 1984 Amendment 2005.

“The company admitted to the offence committed by their workers, and had paid the compound accordingly,” she said.

Noorliza said the Kota Kinabalu City Hall has often received complaints about littering at sea by fishing vessels, thus will intensify their investigative and enforcement activities to curb the problem.

She also advised fishing vessel owners to remind and monitor their workers not to throw rubbish into the sea. – The Vibes, September 25, 2022
