Kota Kinabalu: Four locations in Sabah recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 8am today, with Kota Kinabalu recording the highest at 171.

The Sabah Environment Department (DOE) data showed Kimanis and Keningau each recorded 156, followed by Tawau at 132, while Sandakan remained at a moderate level of 91.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) advised the public, particularly children, senior citizens, pregnant women and those with respiratory problems, to reduce outdoor activities and avoid strenuous physical activities.

Those who need to be outdoors were advised to wear suitable face masks, drink sufficient water and maintain personal hygiene after outdoor activities, while anyone experiencing coughing, shortness of breath or chest pain should seek treatment at the nearest healthcare facility.

JPBN also reminded the public to avoid open burning and keep abreast of the latest API readings and advisories from the DOE and health authorities, adding that it would continue monitoring air quality throughout the State.
