Sarawak haze crisis: Kuching API hits 407, six areas in hazardous zone

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 1 — Six areas in Sarawak recorded Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at the hazardous level as of 8 am today, with the Serian District Police Headquarters recording the highest reading at 408.

According to data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, the five other areas in Sarawak that recorded hazardous API readings were Kuching (407), Samarahan (372), Sri Aman (361), Sarikei (333) and Sibu (309).

Three areas in Sarawak recorded readings at the very unhealthy level – Mukah (234), Bintulu (232) and Samalaju (225).

Nine areas recorded unhealthy API readings, with the Miri Industrial Training Institute recording the highest reading at 187, followed by Miri (180), Kapit (178), Labuan (167) and Limbang (166).

Also recording unhealthy readings were Kimanis and Keningau in Sabah, both at 156, Tawau (132), and Johan Setia in Selangor (123).

Forty-eight areas nationwide were reported to have moderate API readings.

An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and readings above 300 are classified as hazardous. — Bernama
