Kota Kinabalu: The Kota Kinabalu City Master Plan 2023-2030 (Plan KK 2030) is expected to be completed in June this year.
Mayor Datuk Noorliza Awang Alip said the plan served to unify existing action plans that could be a reference for all departments and agencies responsible for the development of the State Capital.
“In the face of climate change that is becoming more and more unexpected at the moment, Kota Kinabalu cannot be left behind and needs to be more aggressive in implementing various initiatives to deal with and adapt to the effects of climate change which is an important component of the KK 2030 Plan.
“This includes preparing and documenting the Carbon Footprint of Kota Kinabalu City more systematically in line with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
“ThE city needs to be developed in a balanced way, including the element of inclusivity, which means that every development idea needs to be planned in an orderly manner so as not to conflict with aspects of safety, ecosystem balance, or things that can hinder economic development,” she said when officiating the Engagement Session of Series 1 of the Plan Framework Induk KK 2023-2030, here, Thursday.
According to her, six main agendas were identified in the master framework of the KK 2030 Plan, including the provision of public infrastructure, environmental sustainability, socio-economic prosperity, smart cities, digital and industrial transformation, arts and cultural inclusion, and governance excellence.
Noorliza said there were more than 70 stakeholders directly involved in the development planning of Kota Kinabalu City and hoped that the essence of the KK 2030 Plan would become something valid, viable, and realistic to meet the expectations of the community.
Several series of similar engagements were also expected to be held again to detail and realise the preparation and implementation of the KK 2030 Plan.
Also present were Director General of DBKK, Junainah Abbie, and Deputy Director General (Planning & Development) Abdul Manaf Rajikan.
