SHAH ALAM – From ruling the music charts and stepping into politics to making her mark in martial arts and education, Indonesian singer Krisdayanti has shown that personal growth has no limits.
At 51, the pop royalty affectionately known as KD or Mimi has stunned fans across Southeast Asia after winning a gold medal at the 2026 National Wushu Kungfu Championships in Tangerang, Banten, Indonesia while simultaneously pursuing a bachelor’s degree in government studies.
Held from July 22 to 26 at Mal Alam Sutera, the national tournament saw Krisdayanti compete in the Series A division for athletes aged 41 to 59.
Demonstrating remarkable strength and technical precision, she claimed her first gold medal in the Shanzi (traditional Chinese fan routine) E-Female category before securing a double victory by taking top honours in the overall division.
Cheered on from the sidelines by her mother and singer-sister Yuni Shara, Krisdayanti remained grounded yet lighthearted following her podium triumph.
"My participation is not merely about competing, but about contributing to a space where Indonesia's future athletes can grow,
"Every step of the process is an investment in character, discipline, sportsmanship and achievement." Krisdayanti shared on social media.
Joking with reporters from Indonesian news outlet RCTI infotainment while displaying her medals, the singer quipped that winning gold was particularly fitting now that she had officially reached her personal "golden age."
However, the "Menghitung Hari" hitmaker's victory is far from a beginner's fluke. In October 2025, she represented Indonesia at the 10th World Kungfu Championships in Emeishan, China, taking home a silver medal in the Women's Single Weapon Routines.
Reflecting on her athletic journey, she stressed that consistency trumps raw talent, urging women across the region to stay active and embrace physical challenges regardless of age.
Beyond the sporting arena, Krisdayanti is equally committed to a rigorous academic schedule.
In March 2025, at the age of 50, she officially enrolled as an undergraduate student at Universitas Terbuka (UT) Jakarta under the Faculty of Law, Social Sciences and Political Sciences (FHISIP).
Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Government Science (Prodi S1 Ilmu Pemerintahan), the former Member of Parliament who served in Indonesia's People's Representative Council (DPR RI) from 2019 to 2024 clearly explained that returning to school was a natural step to formalise the practical political insights gained during her tenure.
"Education is an ongoing life process; whenever the time comes to gain knowledge, there is no such thing as being too late," she was reported as saying in an interview with Indonesian news outlet Suara.
Krisdayanti's ability to balance elite sports training, university coursework and her legendary musical career continues to draw widespread admiration across Malaysia and Indonesia, proving that passion and discipline know no age limit.
