KUDAT: Kudat has the potential to become a regional Blue Economy hub by leveraging its strategic position and abundant marine resources, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
He said the initiative is being driven through the proposed Blue Economy Industrial Park (BEIP) led by the Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco) under the 13th Malaysia Plan.
Sedco is preparing an initial master plan for a 1,205-acre site in Kampung Limau-Limauan and Perapat Laut, with another 3,129 acres identified across Matunggung, Banggi, and Tanjong Kapor as future reserves.
The maritime development will focus on the seafood sector, trade logistics, marine-based ventures, and a proposed port aimed at establishing trade links with China, South Korea, Japan, and the Philippines.
Hajiji added that the State Government is also strengthening the deep-sea fishing sector and upgrading coastal offshore platforms to ensure local communities benefit from the emerging economic opportunities.
