KUALA LUMPUR - Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) M. Kulasegaran today clarified that he was not present in court during proceedings involving activist Arun Dorasamy today, but had only briefly met him outside the Jawi Magistrate’s Court.

He said he had stopped by the court while on his way back from Penang to speak to Arun and encourage him to trust in the legal process as he prepares to face the proceedings ahead.

"I have known Arun since I represented Indira Gandhi in her legal challenge concerning her children.

"I wish to clarify that I only met Arun briefly in the vicinity of the court complex before leaving. I was not present in the courtroom when the charges were read and proceedings held,” Kulasegaran said in a statement today.

Earlier, the PKR Religious Understanding and Empowerment Bureau demanded an explanation from Kulasegaran regarding his presence with Arun at the Jawi Magistrate's Court.

Its chairman, Amidi Abdul Manan, in a statement, said the presence of the Ipoh Barat MP, although in a personal capacity, invites various interpretations and could affect public perception of the government since he is a deputy minister in the ruling government. - BERNAMA
