KUNAK: Resurfacing works with full asphalt paving are currently underway at Kilometer 5 and 6 of the Kunak-Tawau roads to repair damaged sections, including cracks and potholes.
The Daily Express had previously reported on the poor condition of the federal road in these areas, which posed a significant hazard to road users, particularly light vehicles.
The issue was subsequently brought to the attention of Sabah’s Minister of Public Works, Datuk Ir Shahelmey Yahya, who assured that immediate action would be taken to address the damaged roads.
Frequent road users, especially daily commuters, have urged authorities to expedite repairs, as this route serves as a crucial link between the east coast and the state capital.
Echoing these concerns, Sabah Consumer Frontline Association (CFOS) President Nordin Thani called on the Ministry of Public Works and the Public Works Department to actively identify and repair damaged road structures in all districts.
"Many federal roads are in dire need of urgent repairs for the safety of road users," Nordin emphasized.
