Kota Kinabalu: The Kota Yacht Club (KYC) is gearing up for its 31st Merdeka Day Open Regatta to take place at the club’s seafront on August 29-30 from 9am-5pm.
Vice Commodore Jarrow Marcus said the annual event is held in celebration of Malaysia’s Independence Day and aims to promote local tourism while showcasing exhilarating sailing competitions.
With approximately 120 sailors from Sabah, West Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Sarawak and Hong Kong expected to participate, he invited the public to come for an exciting weekend on the water.
“This regatta is not only a celebration of sailing but also an opportunity for visitors to experience our vibrant coastal culture. Everyone is invited to witness this thrilling event!” he said.
Meanwhile, commodore Albert Shim reported that the club had recently successfully completed a beach cleanup mission at Sulug Island, making a significant impact on the local environment.
“We saw a fantastic turnout of volunteers eager to contribute to the island’s cleanliness as they paddled and sailed to the island, ready with trash bags in hand, demonstrating their commendable dedication,” he said.
