THE De La Salle Lady Spikers aim for an elimination round sweep and outright Finals berth as they face the defending champs National University Lady Bulldogs in the UAAP Season 88 women's volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena Sunday.
The match is set at 3 p.m., with the second round encounter of last year's finalists serving as the main event of the penultimate gameday of the tournament.
Another women's match takes place at 1 p.m. with the University of Santo Tomas (7-5) fighting to stay in Final Four contention against the already-eliminated University of the Philippines (5-8).
La Salle put itself on the cusp of an elimination round sweep after blanking the University of the East, 25-20, 25-18, 25-15, last Wednesday.
The Lady Spikers aren't getting caught up with keeping their 13-game win run alive and sweeping their way to the Finals through a perfect elimination round.
Team captain and ace spiker Shevana Laput said they're taking the proverbial one game at a time approach.
"It's the same as what coach Gian (De Jesus) said. That's what the coaches are instilling in us. One game at a time," said Laput, who fired 12 points last timeout.
"We don't worry about this streak that we have, that it's 13-0. We worry about how we perform, and if we perform, of what we have done in training. Being disciplined in staying true to the system that the coaches are teaching us."
La Salle beat NU in the first round, 25-21, 25-19, 19-25, 25-18, on March 15.
The Lady Bulldogs are also determined to win against the Lady Spikers with a payback win not only at stake but more importantly a twice-to-beat incentive.
At 9-3, NU will secure at least a top two finish and the semis bonus a with a win.
The Lady Bulldogs are coming off a 25-19, 25-14, 25-14 victory over the UE Lady Warriors last Sunday.
