SANDAKAN: The lack of four-star hotels to accommodate growing tourist demand was among matters raised at a meeting between the Sandakan Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Tanjung Papat Assemblyman cum Sabah DAP Chairman, Datuk Frankie Poon.

Committee members also proposed enhancing existing tourism spots such as Batu Sapi Park, Berhala Island and Dandulit Black Sand Beach.

These locations, rich in history and natural beauty, were identified as prime candidates for development into prominent tourist attractions and prolonged tourist stays.

The Chamber expressed strong support for Sandakan’s inclusion as a prominent representative of Sabah Tourism Board initiative.

“It is imperative that we allocate sufficient maintenance funds to revitalise our town’s infrastructure.

By prioritising these investments, we can enhance public safety, improve quality of life, and attract further economic opportunities to Sandakan.

“Investing in infrastructure revitalization not only addresses current deficiencies but also lays the foundation for future growth and prosperity,” said Poon.

Discussions also centered on maximising the potential of Menara MPS and other council-owned properties to allocate spaces for youth-led enterprises.

“Empowering our youth is crucial for the sustainable development of Sandakan. By providing access to facilities like Menara Majlis Perbandaran Sandakan (MPS), we can create a supportive environment where young entrepreneurs can thrive and contribute to the local economy,” Poon added.
